WENZI KWA AFYA'S VISION
The project has potential far beyond the education of Kenyan young women.
Improved internet facilities at St. Cecilia’s, a long term goal, would permit substantial interaction between partners already known to one another through direct, personal links. We look forward to the time when the RVCC faculty will be able to provide on-line instruction to hospital and secondary school staff.
We see possibilities for RVCC students and faculty to spend time in Samia as volunteers in many different activities.
We expect that even for those RVCC students who do not travel to East Africa, the opportunity to interact with Kenyan students and to learn from them will be a valuable and educationally broadening experience. And the field is open for other types of collaboration.
Again building on the years of direct connection, we hope to identify, with community advice and support, other areas ripe for collaboration.
One need already noted is a program for physical rehabilitation at Nangina Hospital, which might be staffed in part by physical therapists trained through this partnership. We also hope to support the efforts of local harambee (self-help) clinics to make first-line community care readily available, especially in service of pregnant women and young children.
